This is a rare opprtunity to break into the world of Telecoms Protocol Stack SW Engineering for a Graduate or Engineer with up to 4 years of expereince in embedded C Software Development. Any experience with GSM, GPRS, UMTS, LTE or other protocol stack development experience desirable but not essential.

Current activities include testing and debugging of a LTE stack and physical layer, including responsibility for developing custom test cases, running and debugging certification tests against the complete product using TTCN-3 and third party test equipment, performance testing and executing IODT/IOT testing progressing to real-world field testing. Responsibilities will include development, verification and automation of test cases.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate should have a solid background in programming and communications, including a good degree in an appropriate subject with a 2(i) or better. Experience of executing test cases. Experience of testing communications systems (wired or wireless). Good knowledge of 3GPP Specifications (preferably LTE, but GRPS/EDGE/UMTS/HSPA acceptable), Knowledge of any of the following would be an advantage: Perl, ASN.1, 3G Protocol Test Equipment, Python, Java. Working as part of multi-disciplinary team you will be involved in in-depth RF testing and performance evaluation of WCDMA/LTE residential and grid Radio Resource Management (RRM) algorithms and solution. You will be a creative RF network test engineer who will be responsible for designing, implementation and execution of RF/RRM tests that will exercise the performance of various self organizing network (SON) algorithms under a range of different operational conditions/deployment scenarios. You will work closely with the RRM Algorithm, Software and System Test Engineers to introduce early tests in the development/design process to improve the overall product quality.

Finally you will also engage with operators to understand their WCDMA/GSM RAN configurations to ensure that the product is tested in realistic environments and support some early RF trials as required.

Skills required: • In depth UMTS/GSM and/or LTE on air radio test and evaluation experience and the use of test mobiles (XCAL, TEMs etc) and diagnostic trace tools. • A solid understanding of the UMTS L1, L2 and L3 protocols. • Good IT experience to aid in deployment and trouble shooting issues impacting ability to perform RF tests. • Development of test plans, generation of test reports and in-depth analysis of RF test results. • Ability to travel at short notice to support customer RF trials and activities. Expectation is that 25% of the person’s time would involve travel to operator sites.
